List of university presses
Under University Press (English: university press ) is generally understood to mean a publisher who publishes the written papers ( dissertations, Habilitation, anthologies about of lecture, commemorative publications, research ) of university graduates or employees for a specific university. The legal forms of university presses have significant differences. Some publishers are operated by universities as part of their range of services and can therefore be exempt from sales tax. Others act as commercial businesses with full tax liability. Since the term " university press " is not protected, there are university presses such as the Leipzig University Press, which have no official ties to a university.
Unlike in Anglo- American countries, in Germany there are few university presses, which are under the direct control of the respective university. Today's university presses provide mostly represents start-ups from the 1970s to 1990s, while others have only emerged with the success of the Internet since 2000. Already because of the lower time depth they are smaller compared to the Anglo-American publishers.
