The popularly reported that once a battle had taken place here, where the armies camped at Heersum to " wrestle with List" at Listringen. One other interpretation by the Lords of Heinde had there " did wrestle with desire " their showgrounds and the name of the small grove Papenlah is interpreted as " Pape camp," as 1632 Gottfried Heinrich Graf zu Pappenheim besieged Hildesheim.

The court of justice of the village, Thie, was in the former school garden west of the church. Here lay under tall oaks large stones that served as seats. Should a meeting be held, the bell of the chapel of St. George was rung.

An old legend says that in ancient times was a " healthy wells " have been at Listringen. Many patients found there healing. But no payment could be demanded for the healing potion. Now when a rich man of his illness recovered, they demanded from him a sum of money and the next day the source was dried up. This healthy well will have been sulfur source close to the Papenlah.
