History

The first mention of Wesseln in 1146 as " Westenem ", and later "West home ". In a document of 1215, a priest of Wesseln with name " Henricus de Westene " was mentioned. Already in the 16th century, however, was not a separate parish Wesseln more, but belonged to the parish of the neighboring Detfurth. That since the year 1535 in the possession of those manor located by Wrisberg shaped the further development of the town. The Reformation was not introduced in Wesseln, at first it was not even permitted non-Catholics to live in Wesseln. Originally there was in Wesseln a Gothic chapel on the right bank of Lamme. By the growth of the population in the 19th century, they proved to be too small, so that 1853-55 the present church of St. John Bapt. was built. The Gothic chapel served as a barn and later as stables until it burned in 1905.

Only the mining of potash in Salzdetfurth from 1896 and the construction of the station Wesseln at the Lamb Valley Railway in 1900 led to a shift from the agricultural to the industrial orientation of the village. At the beginning of the 20th century Wesseln had 388 inhabitants.

The incorporation to Bad Salzdetfurth took place on 1 March 1974.

In 1991, the Wesseln station of the Federal Railroad was abandoned, however, put into operation in 2003 after taking over the railway line by the euro rail as well as a modernization again.
