Lithuanian Sports University

The Sport University of Lithuania ( Lithuanian: Lietuvos sporto universitetas, LSU ) is the only university-level educational institution for Sports Science in Lithuania. It is located since its founding in Kaunas district Žaliakalnis in close proximity to the local sports hall and S.Dariaus - and - S.Girėno Stadium.

History

Precursor of the Academy were training courses for physical education teachers at secondary schools that existed 1934-1938 in Kaunas, before they were the Vytautas Magnus University, Kaunas affiliated. Today's institution was founded as Lietuvos Kuno valstybinis kultūros institutas 1945 and renamed in 1999.

Structure

The sports university has three faculties, sixteen chairs and 6 laboratories.

2,650 students from 125 teachers, including 10 professors and 69 lecturers taught.

At the University of LKL 's basketball club plays LSU Baltai Kaunas (formerly Atletas ).

Graduates

Graduates of the institution included the European boxing champion Algirdas Šocikas and Olympic champions Modestas Paulauskas Valdemaras Chomičius, Rimas Kurtinaitis and Virgilijus Alekna.
