Liu Xianbin

Liu Xianbin (Chinese刘贤斌; born August 25 or October 2, 1968 in Suining ) is a Chinese writer, dissident, human rights activist and a signatory of the Charter 08 On the basis of its commitment to democracy and human rights, he was repeatedly sentenced to long prison terms.

Life

As a participant in the demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in 1989 and founder of a non-approved newspaper Liu Xianbin was in 1991 arrested and sentenced to two and a half years in prison. After his release, he became involved remain committed to a democratization of China and helped in 1998 to found the reason of the ban on operating in the underground " China Democracy Party ". For this reason, in 1999 he was arrested again and sentenced to 13 years in prison but was released early for good behavior after nine years. After his release in November 2008, he signed one of the first 303 dissidents of the Charter 08 dissident Because of his texts he was arrested again on 28 June 2010 and sentenced on 25 March 2011 to ten years in prison.
