Lloyd J. Old

John Lloyd Old ( born September 23, 1933, San Francisco, † November 28, 2011 in New York City ) was an American immunologist.

Career

Old made ​​in 1958 at the University of California, San Francisco, graduated as MD After that he went as a research fellow at the Memorial Sloan -Kettering Cancer Center. In 1973, he was Associate Director there. Ten years later he was awarded the William E. Snee Chair of Cancer Immunology.

At Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in New York City Old was a professor. He was chairman of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and a member of numerous boards and advisory councils. Several universities Old was also awarded an honorary doctorate.

On November 28, 2011, he died in New York City from the consequences of prostate disease.

Research

Olds important field of research was the cancer immunotherapy. In this field, he was one of the pioneers. In the late 1950s he led the Bacillus Calmette- Guérin in the treatment of cancer.
