The Aeroporto cantonale di Locarno is an airfield in the field of political community Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Location

The airfield is located approximately 6 km southeast of the center of Locarno and is therefore relatively far from its namesake for its size. He is the Magadinoebene near the Ticino River, which flows just a little over a mile west of the Lago Maggiore. It is a few kilometers from the A2 motorway, accessed via a main road. History

The civilian part of the airport was opened in the summer of 1939. The military part followed already in the following winter. Since 1941 the military where it leads because of the good weather conditions from the basic flying training for military pilots.
