Lock Up (UK band)

Lock Up is a Death Grind supergroup, founded in 1998 in Birmingham, UK. The members were or are members of different bands like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death, Hypocrisy or At the Gates.

History

The band was formed in 1998 by drummer Nicholas Howard Barker and bassist Shane Embury. A short time later, guitarist Jesse Pintado joined the band. Together they played a few songs and took them into the backstage recording studio under the direction of Andy Sneap still without a singer on. With Peter Tägtgren, the band found a suitable singer and they recorded the soundtrack to the song in the Abyss Studio. The debut album Pleasure Pave Sewers was published in December 1999.

For the Wacken Open Air in 2000, Tomas Lindberg took over the post of the singer. At the festival was heard again as a singer even with a song Tägtgren. This was followed by five performances with Decapitated in Poland and the UK. After that, the band developed new pieces for another album. The band entered in 2001 a local recording studio called Framework in Birmingham. The album was produced by Russ Russell. Hate Breeds Suffering was published in early 2002 and elected in Terrorizer "Album of the Month". In July 2002, a tour followed by Japan and Lock Up played on the Extreme the Dojo Festival together with Will Haven and Converge. A live album of these performances was released in 2005 on Toy's Factory Records and 2007 Emburys FETO Records label.

In August 2006, Pintado died as a result of his alcohol consumption to liver failure. Since he was a close friend of the band members, the project was not initially continued. In 2009, the band should play the Damnation Festival in the UK. Anton Reisenegger, a good friend of Embury, became the new guitarist of the band. Following the Damnation Festival, the band wrote new songs and played some demo recordings a. In October 2010, she recorded the album Necropolis Transparent in the HVR Studios in Ipswich under the direction of Dan Biggin ( bassist for Criminal ) on. In January 2011 Sneap mixed the album in the Backstage Studios near Derby, UK, from. July 1, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records Necropolis Transparent has been published.

Style

Lock Up play a mix of Death Metal and Grindcore. A characteristic feature of the band's music, the simple structure of the songs, the guttural vocals and the aggressiveness of the songs is caused by fast played blast beats and vocals guturalen already mentioned.
