Loja Province
Loja is a named after the provincial capital of Loja Province in Ecuador, in the 10,800 sq km about 450,000 people live.
Location
Loja is the southernmost province in Ecuador's Andean highlands. In the south and west of the province, Peru, in the northwest of the province of El Oro, in the north of the province of Azuay and in the east the province of Zamora Chinchipe. From north to south the Panamerican Highway traverses the province.
History
The Loja province was as part of the big Colombian Departamento del Azuay by the law on the territorial division (Spanish Ley de División territorial ) of Greater Colombia from June 25, 1824 founded. After the founding of the state of Ecuador ( 1830) they remained.
Policy
The directly elected Prefect of the province is the architect Rodrigo Vivar Bermeo of the social-democratic Izquierda Democrática (ID). The mayor of the capital, Jorge Bailon, was just as Vivar elected for a common list of CFP, PRE, ID, and PS -FA, but have not heard of ID.
The governor, appointed by the President of Ecuador called Nilo López Córdova.
Nature
The region is known for its coffee cultivation. It is grown around 29 552 hectares of coffee, whereby about 130,000 quintals of coffee are produced each year. Tourists have the opportunity to try on a drawn up by the Ministry of Tourism Theme Route grown coffee since the end of 2013.
Cantons
The Loja Province is currently divided into 16 cantons. These are ( in order of creation ):
