Lolodorf

Province

Lolodorf is a city in southwestern Cameroon (Province Sud) with about 45,300 inhabitants. It is located above the Lokundje in the area of the rainforest. Lolodorf is located between 56 km away in the north eseka Mvengue in the east (33 km) and Bipindi, the Wirktungsort Georg August Zenker in the southwest. It is 110 km from Kribi and 76 km from Ebolowa.

History

Lolodorf was under German colonial rule, the seat of a military station and main town of the district of the same. It was founded on September 1, 1893 to secure the trade route Kribi - Yaounde, initially under civilian administration. In October 1895 it was occupied by a department of the security force, which the expansion of the German judiciary and trade sovereignty took place in the second half of the 1890s to the neighboring Bane and Ngumba companies. In September 1907 the district station and went back over to civil administration. With the death of the last station conductor Wilhelm Achenbach, Lolodorf was disbanded as a government station in May and divided the district area to the neighboring districts of Kribi, Edea, Yaoundé and Ebolowa. On the previous station, a set with a gardener and a hospital assistants injection station was set up for the continuation of agricultural experiments and the perception of control of vaccination. At the outbreak of the First World War, the city was also the seat of a police station and a post office. In addition, there was a Presbyterian mission station.

Current Situation

Lolodorf is home to the pygmy tribes of the otherwise further south settled Bagyeli and belonging to haplogroup Bakola. Furthermore, settled here and the tribes of the Ngumba, fishing and related to them Bulu. Since the 1960s, Bagyeli and Bakola dominated socially more and more, which led to desavoieren the integration plans of marginalized groups by the Cameroonian government.
