The Lone is an approximately 37 km long right tributary of the Hürbe in Alb- Donau-Kreis and the district of Heidenheim in Baden- Württemberg.

Geography

Lonetopf

The Lone rises in central overflow in Steingädele ( 562 m above sea level. NN ), a little haven of community Lonsee. The source pot is 6 m deep and has a diameter of 10 m. The karst spring pours an average of 220 liters per second ( min. 4 l / s max. 1 840 l / s). Its catchment area extends to the eight kilometers west preferred area of Nellingen. The oppressive to the surface, appears bluish Lonewasser probably clean, but like most karst springs in the Swabian Alb heavily contaminated with nitrate, germs and other inputs from agriculture. Some trout used by fishermen cavort in it. The only 100 m from Halde cave has shown signs of a precursor of Lonequelle.

Course

From Steingädele from the Lone flows in a south-easterly direction through the towns Lonsee, Westerstetten and Wyke. Shortly after Bernstadt it swings to the northeast and flows between Hürben and Castle Hill, both areas of Giengen, in the Hürbe.

The Lone is now a small body of water in a very wide valley. In large parts of the route of Westerstetten to Niederstotzingen (1.5 km upstream of the mouth in the Hürbe ), it is less dry because their water seeps completely in the Karst, here remains above ground only a flamboyant and albtypisches Arroyo visible.

History

The original Lone was an important river with two main strands of Tübingen and Stuttgart Beer Lone Lone in the Tertiary. The catchment area of the latter extended into the area of Heilbronn. The Tübingen Lone flowed approximately on the line of the Neckar valley below Plochingens today, then on to the east, the Fils Valley and the increase in Geislingen following, up to the present Lonebett on the Swabian Alb. This direction was followed by the original Lone to Upper Swabia and culminated there in the Tethys, the predecessor of the Mediterranean. Only the uplift of the Alps and Swabian Alb and the descent of the Upper Rhine Graben resulted in Plochingen to tap the primal Lone by the Rhine Neckar and so gave this and its tributary Fils their current striking the angling courses, while the source point of the Lone downstream, the Swabian Alb out shifted.

Several prehistoric finds evidence of early settlement in the Lone Valley.
