Longmen Mountains

Longmen Shan (龙门山/龙门山, Longmen Shān, the Dragon Mountains ') is a mountain range in China's Sichuan province in Southwest China, and runs along the northwestern margin of the Sichuan Basin ( Red bowl ) between Guangyuan, Beichuan and Dujiangyan of Northeast to the southwest at an altitude 1000-1500 meters. It is the eastern edge of the Tibetan highlands.

The seismically active Longmenshan Fault ( szone ) (龙门山 大 断层/龙门山 大 断层or龙门山 断裂带/龙门山 断裂带etc.) - which is considered the cause of the disaster of the earthquake of 12 May 2008 - and the Longmenshan earthquake belt (龙门山 地震 带/龙门山 地震 带, Longmen Shān dìzhèndài ) are named after the mountain.
