Looper (Band)

Looper is a Scottish indie pop band from Glasgow.

History

Looper was established in 1998 by Stuart David, 1996-2000 member of Belle and Sebastian, and his wife Karn David. The band performed first on a show at the Glasgow School of Art. Their first single Impossible Things appeared a few months later at the American Music label Sub Pop. Shortly thereafter, the guitarist Ronnie Black and keyboardist Scott Twynholm joined the band.

Their debut album, Up a Tree was published in 1999 in the United States on Sub Pop and worldwide Jeepster Recordings. In 2000 came the second album The Geometrid. After a three- month U.S. tour with The Flaming Lips, they changed the label Mute Records, where in 2002 the third album The Snare appeared.

Your songs are often employed in movies and commercials. So they licensed their songs for films such as The Edukators, The Girl Next Door or Happy Accidents. Your piece Mondo 77 was used in several films, including Vanilla Sky and a Xerox advertising, which earned the band a number of years a total of over 500,000 pounds of royalties. Thus, the band is largely independent of record sales and released their music for free on their website.
