Lope de Rueda

Lope de Rueda (* 1510 in Seville, † 1565) was one of the first dramatic poet of Spain.

Life

Rueda was initially gold-beater, but went out of inclination to a troupe of actors, in which he worked as an artist and writer and the director he was. He played with extraordinary success in Seville, Cordoba, Valencia, Segovia and, as they say, even at the court of Philip II in Córdoba, he wrote on March 21, 1565 his last will, however, was already so weakened that he no longer sign him could and probably died shortly thereafter.

According to Cervantes, Lope de Rueda is buried in the cathedral of Córdoba. He was married twice, first with the standing bad reputation actress Mariana, the mistress of the Duke of Medinaceli was later and for the second time with Rafaela Angela, with whom he had a daughter.

Work

His posthumously published dramatic works ( 1567 Valencia, Sevilla 1576, Logroño 1588), a selection of which Bohl de Faber in Teatro antiguo español ( Hamburg 1832) and Ochoa's Tesoro del teatro español ( Paris 1840) and in the Biblioteca de autores españoles, band 2, containing, consisting of four comedies, two pastoral conversations and twelve so-called Pasos, small burlesque games as a precursor of the later interludes ( Entremeses ) are to be regarded and excellent through naturalistic portrayal of everyday life, wit and humor, but especially by the distinguished language. Rueda led certain figures as standing roles in the spectacle of a; also writes to him the division of the plays into acts to. A selection of his plays in German translation contains Moritz Rapp's Spanish theater, Volume 1 ( Hildburghausen, 1868).
