Loppi

Loppi [ lɔp ː i] (Swedish: Loppis ) is a municipality in the south of Finland with 8337 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located in the countryside Kanta -Häme 20 km west of the town of Riihimäki and 50 kilometers south of Hämeenlinna. The distance to the capital Helsinki is 75 kilometers.

The three centers of population of the municipality is the village church of Loppi, where about 2,400 people live, as well as Launonen and Läyliäinen, each with about 1,200 inhabitants. In addition to the municipality includes the villages Hevosoja, Hirvijärvi, Hunsala, Joentaka, Kormu, Metsäkylä, Ourajoki, Pilpala, Räyskälä, Sajaniemi, Salo, Teväntö, Topeno and Vojakkala.

The Old Church of Loppi is dedicated to St. Bridget, and is therefore popularly known as Santa Pirjo. The wooden construction is extremely simple shape and has a rectangular plan with no steeple. The old church probably dates from the mid-17th century (the exact date of construction is unknown) and thus one of the oldest wooden churches in Finland. Today it is only used in the summer for evening prayers and weddings. As a parish of the municipality is the built in 1885-87 Church of Loppi. After she was almost completely destroyed in a fire in 1914, it was built in 1919-21 on again. Built of brick church has a ground plan in the shape of a Greek cross and a west tower.
