Lord Nairne

Lord Nairne is a hereditary British title of nobility in the Peerage of Scotland, which is currently run as a subordinate title of Viscount Mersey relevant.

Award

The title was created in 1681 by King Charles II for Sir Robert Nairne of Strathord, who was one of his closest supporters. The title can also be inherited through the female line, if no children are present.

After the title was denied the second Lord 1716, because he had supported the Jacobites, the award was renewed in 1824. The third and fourth Lord but are counted in the ranking, although they never led the title.

More titles

The fact that the title downstream can also be inherited through the female line, he moved several times the family. From 1895 to 1944, he was led by the respective Marquess of Lansdowne as subordinate title after the fifth Marquess had inherited it from his mother. Since 1995, the dignity is borne by the respective Viscount Mersey as a subordinate item. Also in this family he was going through the mother of the fourth Viscount.
