Lorenzo Maitani

Lorenzo Maitani (* 1275 in Siena, † 1330 in Orvieto) was an architect and sculptor of Italian Gothic.

Maitani was from 1310 until his death builder at the cathedral of Orvieto. To him, the design of the western façade is attributed. This created of white marble work is regarded as " one of the most splendid works of Gothic architecture ." He was probably one of the highest paid masters of his time.
