Loriol-sur-Drôme

Loriol -sur -Drôme is a commune with 5877 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes; it belongs to the administrative district of Valence and is the capital of the eponymous canton Loriol -sur -Drôme.

Geography

The small town is located about 20 kilometers north of Montelimar and about the same distance south of Valence on the left side of the valley of the Rhone. Neighboring communities of Loriol -sur -Drôme are:

  • Livron- sur -Drôme in the north,
  • Grane in the east,
  • Cliousclat in the south,
  • Saulce -sur -Rhône in the south west,
  • Baix also in the southwest and
  • Le Pouzin in the West ( both already in the department of Ardèche).

The western boundary of the municipality runs in mid-river Rhône, the northern border is the River Drôme, which opens here in the Rhône. From the Rhone branches on the left bank from a power plant canal (Canal d' Amenée ), which supplies the hydroelectric plant Usine Bethenod Saulce -sur -Rhône. The Rhone itself is at the junction of the channel dammed by a weir ( Barrage of Loriol ).

Transport links

The municipal area is accessible by the N7 main road that runs down the left Rhôneseite in north-south direction. This is traversed in place Loriol -sur -Drôme département of the road D104, direction west crossed by a bridge, the Rhône and continues through Le Pouzin after Privas. To the east, the road runs along the left bank of the Drôme to Crest. By the municipality and the A7 motorway and the railway line between Paris and Marseille, the Loriol has a railway station runs.
