Los Glaciares National Park

The National Park Los Glaciares (Spanish Parque Nacional Los Glaciares = " the glacier " ) is located in the Argentinean Patagonia ( Santa Cruz Province ). It covers an area of 4459 km ² and was listed by UNESCO in 1981 in the World Heritage List.

The National Park is next to some smaller glaciers mainly from the three major glaciers Perito Moreno Glacier, Upsala Glacier and Viedma Glacier. These result in two lakes, Lake Argentino and Lake Viedma, but only partially within the National Park. At Upsala arm of Lake Argentino is the Bahía Onelli.

In the northern part of the park are the granite mountains Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, which are for mountaineering and trekking tourists of interest.

Adjacent is the National Park Torres del Paine on the Chilean side.

Los Glaciares is heavily visited by tourists from all over the world. The starting point is on the Lago Argentino small town of El Calafate and El Chalten village still young.
