Lot (department)

Lot [ lɔt ] is a French department of atomic number 46 It is in the south of the country, in the Midi -Pyrenees and was named after the Lot River, a tributary of the Garonne.

History

The department of Lot was created ( part of the government of Guyenne ) on March 4, 1790 from parts of the old French province of Quercy. In another were (especially Montauban ) affiliated nor areas further south. In 1808, but these were again lost in re-creation of the Tarn- et- Garonne.

Geography

The department of Lot borders the departments of Corrèze, Cantal, Aveyron, Tarn -et -Garonne, Lot- et- Garonne and Dordogne.

The Lot crosses the department from east to west with numerous meanders, the closest Mäanderhals is approximately 200 m wide to find the place Luzech, which can be impressive look from many vantage points of view.
