Lotf Ali Khan

Lotf Ali Khan (Persian لطفعلى خان زند; * about 1769 in Shiraz, † 1794 in Tehran ) was the last Shah of Persia from the Zanddynastie. He ruled on 10 May 1789 to 30 October in 1794.

The son of Jafar Khan was appointed in 1789 to the Shah. He was confronted in 1792 with an uprising of the Aga Muhammad Khan from the Qajar dynasty. Lotf Ali Khan fought against him with his small army, but then fled to Shiraz and locked there.

Lotf Ali Khan lost Shiraz as his chancellor Ibrahim Khan Kalantar betrayed him and opened the city gates to the enemy. Lotf Ali Khan, it failed the town of Shahr -i Babak Aga Muhammad Khan to usurp and marched against the city of Kerman.

In 1793 he defeated the Qajars and in 1794 captured Kerman. But soon he was besieged in Kerman for six months by Agha Mohammad Khan. When the city fell to Agha Mohammad Khan, all the male inhabitants were killed or blinded because of their support of Lotf Ali Khan, and built a pile of 20,000 eyeballs in front of the victorious Agha Muhammad Khan. The women and children were sold into slavery and the city was destroyed over ninety days out.

Lotf Ali Khan but managed to escape before, but was betrayed and captured again near Bam. He was personally blinded by Aga Mohammad Khan and plugged in Tehran in a prison where he was tortured to death by his testicles section and a spear thrust through his heart. His grave is located in Emamzadeh Zeid at the old market of Tehran. His portrait can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts in Sadabad Palace.
