Lotte Motz

Lotte Motz (* August 16, 1922; † 24 December 1997) was an Austrian- American Anglistische, Germanistic and Skandinavian medievalist. Motz has researched and published in particular on questions of Germanic mythology and religion in conjunction with other Indo-European cultures.

Life

Motz, born Lotte Edlis, left in 1941 with her family in Austria and emigrated to the United States. At Stanford University and the University of Wisconsin, she studied German language and literature and Germanic Philology, including the Old English language and literature and received a doctorate in phil. In 1955 she accepted a lectureship in Old English at Oxford University. Later she joined the City University of New York for a professorship for older German and English language and literature until her retirement in 1984.
