Lotus 22

The Lotus 22 was a Formula Junior racing car, built in 1962 by the British Motor Sport Team Lotus.

The Lotus 22 was introduced in 1962 at the London Motor racing show. The London Motor Show was in the 1960s a significant event for the Motorsport and the team led by Lotus used the event to the application of new Lotus cars models for the financially strong privateers.

The new car, 77 units were built, was an evolution of the Lotus 20, which was previously presented a year in London. She was equipped as in the previous model, a motor Cosworth. Only Gerhard Mitter, who replaced his Lotus 20 by 22, built as in his 20s, one a DKW engine.

Once again dominated the Lotus British Championship. Peter Arundell started in 25 races, finished 22 and won 18 of them. The South African Brausch Niemann drove a 22 with a drilled Cosworth engine in the South African Championship in winter 1963/1964 as a Formula 1 car.
