Lou Moro

Luigi " Lou" Paolo Moro ( born April 26, 1918 in Savona, † 30 September 2009 in Burnaby ) was an Italian- Canadian football, ice hockey and lacrosse coach.

Career

Moro was eleven years old immigrated with his family in the Canadian province of British Columbia. After he had been briefly actively as lacrosse, he began in the late 1930s, a career as a lacrosse and ice hockey coach. First, he oversaw during his military service in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War, the respective teams of the Navy.

Full-time working as a butcher to Moro developed after the war a reputation as a respected coach in both sports as well as in football. He accompanied athletics coach the Canadian national soccer team in the 1960s with several trips abroad to countries such as England, Scotland and the Soviet Union in 1960. Later he managed the team in the qualifying rounds for the World Championships in 1974 and 1978. Subsequently, he coached the Vancouver Whitecaps in the North American Soccer League and after its dissolution in 1984 two years later he took over as coach at the newly established successor club Vancouver 86ers in the Canadian Soccer League. In addition, he worked - often volunteer - over the years, especially in the youth development at various lacrosse and football youth teams.

Moro was honored for his work in many cases. 1975 took him the Lacrosse Hall of Fame, 1984, the Italian Cultural Hall of Fame and 1995, the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame and in 1973 he received the Aubrey Sanford, BC Soccer Achievement Award Since 2000 he has also been part of the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame.
