Louis Alméras

Louis Alméras, occasionally Louis Almeyra ( born March 15, 1768 in Vienne ( Isère), † January 7, 1828 in Bordeaux) was a French general of division of infantry.

Life

Alméras was the son of the lawyer Jean -Baptiste Almeras and his wife Françoise Lherbert.

From April 1787 Alméras studied at the École nationale des ponts et chaussées and entered upon successful completion on 1 November 1791 in the Army. There he made very fast career and in 1793, at the siege of Toulon, he has already acted as aide- de-camp of General Jean -François Carteaux.

1796/97 he took part in Napoleon's Italian campaign under the command of General Jean -Baptiste Kléber. Also during the Egyptian expedition, he fought under Kléber; so also of the Nile (25 July 1799), Alexandria and Helipolis (20 March 1800).

Alméras spoke out against Napoleon, when the latter by means Coup of 18 Brumaire to the First Consul, effectively sole ruler.

1809 moved to Alméras Armée d'Italie and placed himself under the command of Eugène de Beauharnais. Under General Jean Maximilien Lamarque Alméras be distinguished in the battles of the Piave (8 May 1809) and of Wagram ( 5.6. July 1809 ).

As a general of infantry Alméras took part in the Russian campaign and was severely wounded at the Battle of Borodino (26 August 1812). He survived his wound and joined during the Restoration Louis XVIII. of. When Napoleon left the island of Elba and began the rule of the Hundred Days, Alméras moved back to Napoleon.

He served as military governor of Bordeaux when he unexpectedly suffered a stroke. He died a few weeks before his 60th birthday on January 7, 1828, there was also his last resting place.
