Louis Amédée Achard

Amédée Achard (* April 19, 1814 in Marseille, † March 24, 1875 in Paris) was a French journalist and writer.

Life and work

Amédée Achard came with his family to Algeria, where he earned later as a salesman for a living. Later, he was also in Algeria, partner of an agricultural enterprise.

Achard returned to France and settled from 1838 as a feature writer settled in Paris. At the same time he was able to publish his Lettres parisiennes, which he had written under the pseudonym of "Grimm " (a tribute to the writer Friedrich Melchior Grimm).

At the time of the February Revolution of 1848 Achard was also politically active; He wrote, inter alia, some revolutionary pamphlets. As a writer he was long connected to the conservative royalist camp. Later, he turned back to the more entertainment novel. In this case, inter alia, also by audiences and critics alike acclaimed historical portraits Nieces de Mazarin arose.

At the age of 61 years the writer Amédée died on 24 March 1875 in Paris and found in the Père Lachaise (Dept. 85) his final resting place. On behalf of the Société des gens de lettres and the Société des auteurs dramatiques the sculptor Louis Charles Janson (1823-1881) created the grave stone.
