Louis Caravaque

Louis Caravaque (* January 31, 1684, † June 9, 1754 ) was a French painter.

Life

Caravaque is best known as a portrait painter and painter of history paintings in Russia. He grew up in Gascony. After training as a painter in France, he went to Russia, where he spent his life. Among other things, he portrayed various members of the royal family; multiple images are now in the possession of the Tretyakov Gallery and the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg.
