Louis-Charles Malassez

Louis -Charles Malassez ( born September 21, 1842 in Nièvre, † 1909) was a French physician and bacteriologist.

Life and work

Louis -Charles Malassez studied medicine in Paris and in 1873 received his doctorate. In 1875, he was " Directeur adjoint " at the Histological Laboratory of the Collège de France. He conducted research in many areas, particularly in hematology (blood, development of blood cells, hemoglobin content) and bacteriology.

Malassez 1878 was vice president of the Societé Anatomique de Paris and from 1879 to 1891 the Societe de Biologie. In 1894 he was admitted nationale de Médecine in the Académie.

Honors

The Malassez Hämatometer bears his name. Henri Ernest Baillon in 1889 named in his honor, which belongs to the genus Malassezia yeasts. Similarly, the rests of Malassez epithelial rests are named after him.
