Louis, Count of Évreux

Louis of France, Count of Évreux (* May 1276, † May 19, 1319 in Paris) was the third son of the French king Philip III. with his second wife Maria of Brabant. He was the half-brother of King Philip IV and Charles of Valois, the founder of the House of Valois.

1298 gave him Philip IV as appanage the county Évreux, the Etampes, the Beaumont- le -Roger, the Meulan and Gien, 1316 he was additionally the county Longueville, in January 1317 he became the Count of Evreux and thus to the pair of France appointed.

Unlike most of his contemporaries, he was a peace-loving nobleman. He defended the rights of diplomatic missions of the King against the Church and in particular supported his half-brother Philip IV in his struggle against Pope Boniface VIII ( 1294-1303 ). He took in 1297, 1304 and 1315 in the campaigns in Flanders part.

He married early in 1301 Margaret of Artois ( probably * 1285, † April 24, 1311 ), mistress of Brie -Comte- Robert, sister of Count Robert III, with whom he had five children.:

Louis of Evreux is the progenitor of the house of France Évreux. He was buried in Saint -Jacques in Paris.
