Louis François Dauprat

Louis -François Dauprat ( born May 24, 1781 Paris, † July 16, 1868 ) was a French horn player, composer and professor of horn at the Conservatoire de Paris.

Life

Louis -François Dauprat studied at the " Maîtrise " Notre -Dame de Paris Cathedral, until it was closed in 1790 because of the revolutionary turmoil. From 1794 he attended the furnished by Joseph characteristics (natural) horn class at the newly founded " Institut national de musique ", from the 1795 emerged the Paris Conservatoire. Daupart won in 1797 for the first time exposed " Premier Prix". As a prize, he received a Inventionshorn, from the then leading workshop in Paris by Lucien- Joseph Raoux ( 1753-1821 ). The instrument is now one of the impressive showpieces of the Conservatoire Museum of Paris. From 1800 he worked in various military bands, but took off in 1801 lessons in harmony and composition, with François -Joseph Gossec and Charles -Simon Catel. Between 1811 and 1814, he received further musical theory lessons with Antonin Reicha.

From 1806 to 1808, he was principal horn in the orchestra of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, from 1808 to 1811 at the Paris Opera Orchestra and the Conservatory of Paris. At both institutions he succeeded Johann Joseph Kenn and, soon after, of the famous solo horn player Frédéric Duvernoy. He was principal horn in the Royal and Imperial court orchestras and permanent soloist of the chamber music of King Louis Philippe. From 1828 to 1838 he was principal horn in the " Société des Concerts du Conservatoire ". 1842 Daupart withdrew from all his offices.

His numerous compositions he wrote specifically for his students for educational purposes. He played and taught only on the natural horn, has, however, very interested in the first trials of flaps horns.
