Louis I, Count of Nassau-Weilburg

Ludwig I of Nassau- Weilburg ( * 1466, † May 28, 1523 ) was from 1492 to 1523, Count of Nassau- Weilburg.

Life

He was the son of John of Nassau -Weilburg and grandson of Philip II 's mother was Elizabeth of Hesse, daughter of Landgrave Ludwig of peacemakers.

His father died 1480th Ludwig was therefore initially under the tutelage of his grandfather, and since 1488 the Archbishop Berthold of Mainz and the Landgrave William of Hesse. On their behalf Eberhard von Merenberg and Eberhard Stümmel conducted the affairs of state.

After he had assumed the regency, 1491 testamentary agreement was agreed with the House of Nassau -Saarbrücken. The reign he gave in 1496 from back when he appointed Johann Ludwig von Nassau -Saarbrücken as a curator and this gave the government.

Since 1501 he was married to Marie of Nassau- Wiesbaden. The marriage produced six children. Three of them died in childhood. Among the surviving children were:

  • Philipp (* September 20, 1504; † October 4, 1559 )
  • Anna (* October 7, 1505; † November 28, 1564 ) ∞ 1523 John III. of Nassau- Beilstein (1495-1561)

He was buried in the monastery of St. Walpurgis in Weilburg. There his grave plate is obtained.
