Louis III, Count of Löwenstein

Ludwig III. Lowenstein ( born February 17, 1530 in Vaihingen, † March 13, 1611 in Wertheim ) was Count of Löwenstein- Wertheim.

Life

Ludwig III. was a son of Count Frederick I of Lowenstein (1502-1541) ( a son of Count Ludwig I ) and his wife Helene von Koenigsegg ( 1509-1566 ).

At the age of 18 he came to the imperial court in Vienna, where he was given command of a cavalry regiment with 1,000 horses. A short time later he went to Burgundy and worked there for Elector Frederick II of the Palatinate Electoral Palatinate as ambassador to various courts. In 1557 it was sent to the Diet of Regensburg and performed - despite Protestant denomination - as Imperial Council in the service of King Ferdinand one. In 1559 he was promoted to President of the Reich court counselor. As a representative of Emperor Maximilian II, he was also present on several diets. Archduke Charles of Styria appointed him governor of Carinthia, Carniola and Styria.

Ludwig had ( under suzerainty of Württemberg ) the county Lowenstein. On September 3, 1566 he married Countess Anna of Stolberg ( 1548-1599 ), daughter of Count Ludwig of Stolberg. Originally Ludwig had sought a marriage with her older sister Catherine, the widow of the last Earl Wertheimer. Ludwig's father had in 1566 the County of Wertheim inherited that.
