Louis le Brocquy

Louis le Brocquy ( born November 10, 1916 in Dublin, † April 25, 2012 ) was an Irish painter.

Short Biography

Le Brocquy was particularly known for the expressive portrait heads of famous writers and artists such as James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, William Butler Yeats, Seamus Heaney and Francis Bacon. In 1956, he represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale and won the Premio Acquisto International. His Technique was characterized by the application of multiple layers, the upper layers of the lower non- obscure, but shine through transparent. Le Brocquy was a Saoi at Aosdána.
