Louis Lecompte

John Howard Louis Lecompte ( born July 28, 1914 in Montréal, Québec, † February 1970 in Nairobi, Kenya) was a Canadian ice hockey player and umpire. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Louis Lecompte began his career as a hockey player with the Ottawa Rideau, for which he was active from 1932 to 1934 in the Ottawa Junior Hockey League. He also spent one season with the Canadiens Ottawa in Ottawa Senior League. In 1935, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he worked as a photographer in the Office of Public Relations. Finally, he reached the rank of Flight Lieutenant. During his time in the army, he played for the RCAF Flyers. He also played for the Truro Bearcats of the Nova Scotia Antigonish - Pictou County Hockey League and the Ottawa Rockcliffe RCAF from the Ottawa National Defense Hockey League. After the war he joined the RCAF Dartmouth from Halifax City Senior Hockey League and then played for the Ottawa Senators of the Upper Ottawa Valley Hockey League. He returned back to the 1947 RCAF Flyers and took in 1948 with the team for Canada at the Olympic Winter Games in part. In 1948 he also played in four games for the Rockckliffe RCAF from the ONDHL.

In the 1950s, Lecompte was active as a referee in the Ontario Hockey Association as well as the 1953 Memorial Cup. Also as an arbitrator, he was active at the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo. From 1963 he worked for the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi, Kenya, where he already died in 1970 at the age of 55 years.

Internationally

For Canada Lecompte participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 in part in St. Moritz, where he won the gold medal with his team. In eight games, he scored two goals and three assists.
