Louis Sussmann-Hellborn

Louis Sussmann - Hellborn, also Louis Sussmann - Hellborn ( born March 20, 1828 in Berlin, † August 15, 1908 in Berlin) was a German sculptor, painter, art collector and entrepreneur.

Life

Louis Sussmann - Hellborn received his training as a sculptor in August Wredow at the Berlin Academy of Arts. He traveled to study in France, Belgium and England. In Rome he lived from 1852 to 1856. 1856 in Berlin organized a first major exhibition of works by Sussmann - Hellborn. In 1857 he settled in Berlin again. His villa in the Tiergarten was one of the most representative buildings of the prestigious district and in its banquet hall, met the educated society of Berlin. 1875 bought Sussmann - Hellborn Arnold Böcklin whose painting " Sea idyll " (also called " Triton and Nereid " ) for 10,000 marks from (later National Gallery, since 1945, lost).

He was one of the founders of the Royal Arts and Crafts Museum and was also involved in building a sculpture collection at the Royal Museums in Berlin. From 1882 to 1887 Sussmann - Hellborn was head of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory ( KPM ) in Berlin. Otto Lessing (1846-1912) and he was at that time the only sculptor in the club Berlin architect, which probably had to do with her ​​work as excellent Bauplastiker.
