Louis Vallin

Louis Vallin ( born August 16, 1770 in Dormans, † December 25, 1854 in Paris) was a French lieutenant general of cavalry.

Life

Vallin was a son of the officer Joseph Edmond Vallin and his wife Marie Anne Labouret. After his education by private tutors, he attended to study law the Collège Louis- le -Grand.

Inspired by the ideals of the revolution, he abandoned his studies and at tr as a volunteer in the army. His first service he rendered under Marshal Nicolas Luckner and was promoted several times.

A little later he became adjutant to the staff of General Jean Hardy and fought among others under whose leadership at Fleurus (26 June 1794) and participated in the Bela low of Maastricht.

After subsequent promotions Vallin changed as a battalion chief to General François Séverin Marceau and also fought at Wagram ( 5 / July 6, 1809 ). The following year, Vallin married in Paris on July 12, Saubade Garat (1769-1821 ), a daughter of Martin Garat, the Director-General of the Banque de France. They had two daughters: Léonie -Louise, later the mayor of Mende, Jules Borelli André de Serres and married Marie -Louise, the later the Council of State Louis François Basset de Bourg Château married.

Vallin 1812 took part in Napoleon's Russian campaign and pointed bravely in several battles.

After the battle of Paris (30 March 1814) and the abdication of Napoleon (→ Treaty of Fontainebleau ) Vallin was a partisan of the Bourbons. When after restoration and the July Revolution again consolidated, Vallin came - after a short suspension - back in office.

In 1823 he took part in the invasion of Spain (→ Trienio Liberal ). When he returned to France the following year, he moved from active service and took on more administrative tasks. He led some commissions for restructuring the army (especially the cavalry) and served in 1827 as Inspector General of Cavalry.

On January 1, 1853 Louis Vallin was officially retires. He died at the age of 84 years on 25 December 1854 in Paris and found his final resting place.
