Lucenay

Lucenay is a commune with 1780 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Rhône department in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs to the district of Villefranche -sur -Saône and Canton Anse.

Location

Lucenay is located in the Beaujolais wine growing region, about 20 kilometers north- west of Lyon. Thanks to the east of the municipality of Lucenay the Saône Creek Azergues flows.

History

The village Lucenay ( Luccennacum ) belonged to existing since the 6th century Lyon County. This is indicated by a written source in a Lyon church, the Count I. Artaud, who died in 960, is attributed. Until the mid-20th century dominated the limestone quarries around Lucenay. After the task of the wine was the most important acquisition basis.

Population

With 1780 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lucenay belongs to the medium-sized communities in the department of Rhône. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1901 were still counted 834 inhabitants ), one recorded since the beginning of the 1950s a return to strong population growth.

Economy, infrastructure

The main industries in Lucenay are the wine and tourism partly associated. The quality of the wines produced here may bear the designation of origin (AOC ) Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire, Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Passetoutgrain or Crémant de Bourgogne. Other agricultural products include fruits, vegetables and grains. Through the territory of the municipality Lucenay leads the Autoroute A6 (Paris- Lyon). The five- kilometers to the railway station of Anse lies on the railway line between Paris and Marseille.

A partnership exists with the French community Velleron in the Vaucluse.
