Luciano Bruno

Luciano Bruno ( * May 23, 1963 in Foggia ) is an Italian former boxer. Bruno was silver medalist at the European Championships in 1983 and bronze medalist of the Olympic Games 1984.

Career

Amateur

Bruno was Italian champion in 1980 and 1981 in the light welterweight ( -63.5 kg ) and 1982 welterweight ( -67 kg ).

1982 Bruno won the silver medal of the Military World Championships in Algiers and in the same year he was also runner-up of the European Junior Championships ( U19) in Schwerin, where he in the final against Torsten Schmitz, East Germany (5-0 ) lost. The same position he also managed at the European Championships the following year. His final opponent this time was Petr Galkin, Soviet Union ( 4-1 ). In the Mediterranean Games in 1983, Bruno also won the silver medal. In the same year he also won the World Cup in Rome.

At the Olympic Games in 1984 Bruno reached after victories over Georges Bosco, Benin ( 5:0 ), Peter Okumu, Nigeria (4:1), and Alexander Künzler, Germany (5-0 ), the semi-finals, which he later against the Olympic champion Mark Breland, USA (5-0 ), lost and thus won the Olympic bronze medal.

Professional

1984 Bruno played his first professional fight. He remained unbeaten in this and the following eight fights and ended in 1987 without ever having fought for a title of his career. Six of the nine fights he won by KO.
