From the second LP their records were released by Vertigo Records, but in the U.S. they came with small independent labels out and achieved notable successes. In the late 1970s, they got a contract with Elektra Records and recorded three albums with more commercial music, but the interest in the band had waned and these plates were even less successful than its predecessor.

Lucifer's Friend changed their style for each new album, and was followed by new models. Their first album, recorded in a studio mesh at Joe Menke, was influenced by Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath fans and talks earlier heavy metal music. The second album, however, was very experimental and progressive and psychedelic rock with associative contained texts by John O'Brien - Docker. The next album Mind Exploding again contained straighter hard rock. Singer John Lawton joined Uriah Heep in 1976. He came back for the album Mean Machine 1981.

On the two albums without Lawton the music of the group was very commercial, with strong hints of Queen on Good Time Warrior of 1978 and in disco style with Sneak Me In by 1980.
