Ludogorie

Ludogorie ( Лудогорие Bulgarian, Turkish Deliorman ) is a historical region in northeastern Bulgaria and the level of the same name. The area of Ludogorie comprises 2638 km2. It is located in the Danube Plain, belongs mainly to the Oblast Razgrad and includes the cities of Novi Pazar, Pliska, Isperich and Razgrad.

The Ludogorie level is in the eastern hilly and reaches near the village of Samuil a height of 485 m above sea level. To the north it merges into the plains of Dobruja and the Danube Plain. This is also the lowest point in Iper lies at an altitude of 39 m. The Ludogorie level is part of the Danube Plain.

The Turkish name of the region was Deliorman what in the literal translation of "crazy forest " means, in Bulgarian " Luda gora " or area name Ludogorie. Ludogorie is thus a transfer of the old Turkish name Deliorman into Bulgarian. The Bulgarian landscape designation in 1942 officially changed to " Polesje ". However, the name did not sit by himself and in 1950 was replaced by the new official name Ludogorie. Ludogorie is usually attached to the particular item ( " to") is used, and then the area designated as " Ludogorieto ". In everyday language, however, also held today in parallel, the name Deliorman.

Until the 18th century the region was covered by dense forest, which passed seamlessly into the forests of the Balkan Mountains. Today, most of the forests have disappeared. Only the forest in " water reserve " has been preserved and is reminiscent of the historical state. The region is poor in water resources. The only major river that flows through the region, the Beli Lom.

The population of the region consists of Bulgarians, Turks and Roma.
