Luduş ( Ludasch German, Hungarian Marosludas ) is a town in Mureş county in Romania.

Location

Luduş is located approximately in the middle of Transylvania on the river Mureş. The county town Targu Mures is located about 40 km east.

History

Luduş was first mentioned in 1377 (that is my finished village Gheja already 1366). The site - which was part of the Kingdom of Hungary, the Principality of Transylvania and to Austria - Hungary until 1918 - was long dominated village, but had a certain importance as a local trading center. In 1800 he was awarded the status of a municipality, in 1850 he became local administrative center. 1871 Luduş got a rail connection; little later the place was a railway junction by a branching northward trajectory towards Bistrita. As a result Luduş took an economic boom; especially after the Second World War industrial enterprises were settled (mainly food processing). 1960 Luduş became a town.

Population

Originally Luduş was mainly inhabited by Romanians; at the 1850 census had a population of 2,031 1,795 Romanians and Hungarians 81. During the economic boom and the Magyarization the Hungarian population increased significantly; lived in 1920 in Luduş 6,195 persons, of which the relative majority ( 2,965 ) referred to himself as Hungary; lived next 2,458 Romanians, 743 Jews and 12 German in place. After the Second World War, the Romanian share increased again and soon established majority. In 2002, in the town of 17,497 inhabitants registered, including 12,190 Romanians, 4414 Hungarians, 857 Roma and 11 German.

Traffic

Luduş lies on the railway line Alba Iulia Târgu Mureş. In the city the route branches off to Bistrita Bargaului in Bistrita-Nasaud circle. There are regular bus services to Iernut Târnăveni and Targu Mures. By Luduş leads the European Route 60
