Ludwig Adolph Timotheus Radlkofer

Ludwig Adolph Timotheus Radlkofer ( born December 19, 1829 in Munich, † February 16, 1927 in Munich) was a German botanist and university professor. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Radlk. ".

Radlkofer studied medicine in Munich, where he received his doctorate in 1858 for Dr. med. Subsequently, he studied botany at the University of Jena. There he was, among other students of Matthias Jacob Schleiden, in which he worked microscopic anatomically and pharmacologically. In Jena, he received his doctorate in 1855, Dr. phil. From 1856 he was a lecturer, and in 1859 (now the Herbarium and Botanical Garden Munich ) has been appointed associate professor and lecturer at the Botanical Conservatory in Munich. From 1863 to 1913 was professor of botany Radlkofer at the University of Munich. In 1892, he was the successor of Carl Wilhelm von Naegeli Director of the Botanical Museum in Munich. The Bavarian Academy of Sciences appointed him in 1875 as an associate member in 1882 he became a full member of the Academy.

Radlkofer resulted in the continuation of Matthias Schleiden an anatomical analysis as a method of determination of herbal drugs in pharmacognosy and the botanical systematics. He finally corrected the error Schleiden, on the role of pollen and confirmed the studies of Wilhelm Hofmeister on the fertilization of the phanerogams.

Known disciple of Radkofer were Hans Sole Reder, Otto Renner, Carl Prantl, Ernst Küster, Johannes Gottfried Hallier and Theodor Herzog.

The plant genus Radlkofera Gilg. has been named after him.
