Lüen

Lüen (Romansh Leun? / I ) until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the district Schanfigg, District Plessur in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Calfreisen, Castiel, Long Meadow, Molinis, Peist and St. Peter- Pagig to the municipality Arosa.

The initial name of the former municipality is covered by the arrow as the symbol of the valley. Ten colors of the federal court.

Geography

Lüen is on the right, northern side of the Schanfiggs, 7 km (air line) east of Chur. In a narrow strip of the former municipal area extends from 750 meters above sea level. M. on Talfluss Plessur up almost to the ridge. The deeply incised river is around 2 km in length, between the mouths of rogue Tobel and Clasaurer Tobel, the former municipal boundary. Above a steep wooded slope section, the scattered village lies on a slope Lüen rest, surrounded by meadows and fruit trees. Beyond about 200 meters altitude above the village extending valley road territory comprises the western edge of the ravine Clasaurer with pastures, woodland and pastures on Lüener mountain. The highest point is at 2217 meters above sea level. M. reached on the south side of the high Wangs.

9% of the former municipal area are unproductive forested, 52% and 37 % is used for agriculture. Neighboring communities were Castiel, St. Peter- Pagig, Molinis and Lenzerheide - Praden.

Geology

The Schanfigg is built largely of Pennine Grisons schists. In Lüen these occur as siliceous to calcareous shale Shale. The rock is covered with moraines and fluvio-glacial gravels.

History

Originally, the village was inhabited by Romansh. The first mention of Leune (local name unknown origin ) dates from 1084, when the free Lüener the newly built church gave the Bishop of Chur. In the Three Leagues of the place was as a neighborhood of the Court Ausserschanfigg to ten court covenant. 1530 Lüen joined the Reformation. End of the 16th century it went from the Romanesque over to the German language.

Economy

In Lüen seven people working on farms, there are two places in the service sector (as of 2002). The remaining residents find work outside of the former township. The hydroelectric power plant 1913/14, created Lüen is now operated by Arosa energy.

Traffic

Since 1914, the former municipality is connected with the located below the village station Lüen - Castiel on the operated by the Rhaetian Railway railway line from Chur to Arosa to the network of public transport. From Castiel on the 1875/77 built Schanfiggerstrasse leads down a narrow access road from Lüen.

Culture and sights

  • The Reformed village church was built in 1084 in Romanesque style. She was dedicated to St. Zeno and has inside early Gothic wall paintings from the workshop of master Waltensburger on ( mid 14th century).
