Molinis

Molinis (Romansh Molinas? / I = mill) was until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the district Schanfigg, District Plessur in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Calfreisen, Castiel, Long Meadow, Lüen, Peist and St. Peter- Pagig to the municipality Arosa.

Geography

Molinis located in Schanfigg, 10 km (airline ) east of Chur. As the only settlement of the valley scattered village is not on a slope terrace, but the bottom of the narrow valley floor directly on the right bank of the Plessur. On the right (north) side of the valley the former municipality covers only a 2 km long narrow strip of land between the river and the well 100 m above extending railway line. Much more extensive is the area on the opposite side of the shade. It extends from the Plessur on the large partially wooded, rugged ravines and landslides from slopes to the vast alpine meadows Ochsenalp on the northern edge of the Arosa white horn. Just below the summit is the with 2'544 meters above sea level. M. reaches highest point of the former township.

For the former town next to the capital include the Hofsiedlungen Gadenstett, Usser Zana Zana and heart on the left side of the valley.

Neighboring communities were St. Peter- Pagig, Peist, Arosa, Lenzerheide - Praden and Lüen.

History

The 1335 mentioned as Mulina place belonged to the Three Leagues to the court Ausserschanfigg the ten federal court.

Population

Language

The name of the town goes back to the word Romansh mulin " mill ". In fact belonged Molinis as the entire Schanfigg originally the Romansh language area. Only since the 16th century Molinis is German; the population speaks a Walser dialect from further upstream lying long meadow spread out down the valley.

Economy

The former church has few workplaces in agriculture and forestry, trade and industry and the service sector. There is a restaurant, but no shop for daily use more.
