West American Luetkea ( Luetkea pectinata)

The North American Luetkea ( Luetkea pectinata ) is the only species in the genus Luetkea in the rose family ( Rosaceae ).

Features

The North American Luetkea is an evergreen, mat -forming subshrub forming underground runners and reaches heights of growth to 20 centimeters. The leaves are 1-2 inches long and stalked. The leaf blade is three columns. The leaf sections have 2-3 lanceolate lobes. The inflorescence is a raceme. The 5 sepals are upright or stand-off. The 5 petals are colored white. There are 20 stamens present.

Blooms from July to September.

Occurrence

The North American Luetkea occurs on moist, shady corridors sand and rocks in western North America.

Use

The North American Luetkea is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens.
