Luftëtari Gjirokastër

Klubi Sportiv Luftëtari Gjirokastra is an Albanian football club from Gjirokastra, which plays in the second division Kategoria e Pare.

History

The club was founded in 1926 under the name Shqiponja Gjirokastër. From 1949 they called themselves simply Gjirokastër in 1951 it was renamed the Puna Gjirokaster. Seven years later, standing at the next name change when the club was the first time the present name. Under this name, the greatest success was achieved in the club's history, as one 1978, the league finished as runner-up. 1992 baptized one in the original name, Shqiponja Gjirokastër to. Since 2000 the club has its current name. After being relegated from the first division in 2002, succeeded in 2003 as part of the renovation of the Albanian League system of qualifying for the Kategoria Superiore. After four years of second-class succeeded in 2006 due to the increase in the premier league table as fourth in the second division of the climb. In the first division, however, you could not hold and the club rose after one year from the second division. The same things happened as first in the 2011/12 season through the championship in the second division again the promotion to the top flight, the club but thereafter directly descended again.

Stadium

Luftëtari plays its home matches at the Stadium Subi Bakiri. The multi-purpose stadium has approximately 8,400 spectators.
