Lugano Prealps

The Lugano Prealps (or after Partizione delle Alpi also Western Lombard Prealps or Lugano Alps) are the section 11 of the Western Alps SOIUSA after graduation. They are located in Switzerland in the canton of Ticino and Italy in the Lombardy region.

Confines

The Lugano Prealps are limited:

  • From Lake Maggiore in the West
  • The line Locarno - Bellinzona - Gravedona in the north, and the San Jorio Pass.
  • Lake Como in the East
  • The Po Valley in the south.

The highest mountain is the Pizzo di Gino ( 2245 m ).

Division

After SOIUSA, one can divide the Lugano Prealps in subsections 2 and 5 mountain ranges.

  • Como Alps Gino - Camoghè - Fiorina
  • Generoso - Gordona
  • Mountain chain Palanzone - San Primo - Corni di Canzo
  • Tamaro - Gambarogno - Lema
  • Piambello - Campo dei Fiori - Nudo.
