Luigi Barbarito

Luigi Barbarito ( born April 19, 1922 in Atripalda, Avellino, Italy ) is a former diplomat of the Holy See.

Life

Luigi Barbarito received on August 20, 1944, ordained priest.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 11 June 1969 Titular Archbishop of Fiorentino, Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti. Emeritus Cardinal Secretary of State, Cardinal Cicognani Amleto Giovanni donated to him on 10 August of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Curia Bishop Agostino Casaroli and Pasquale Venezia, Bishop of Avellino.

On April 5, 1975, he was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Niger and Senegal and Apostolic Delegate in Guinea- Bissau, Mali and Mauritania. On June 10, 1978, he was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Australia. On January 21, 1986, he was appointed Apostolic Pro- Nuncio to the United Kingdom and raised there to the Apostolic Nuncio on 13 April 1993.
