Luis Gianneo

Luis Gianneo ( born January 9, 1897 in Buenos Aires; † August 15, 1968 ) was an Argentine composer of Italian descent.

Gianneo was a piano student of Luigi Romaniello and Ernesto Drangosch and studied composition with Constantino Gaito and Eduardo Fornarini. In 1921 he married the singer and pianist Josefina Ghidoni and moved in 1923 to San Miguel de Tucumán. There he worked for the next twenty years as a teacher, pianist and conductor. He founded and directed the Tucumán Asociación Sinfónica with which he performed the works of contemporary composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Claude Debussy and Ottorino Respighi.

In 1932 he joined the Grupo Renovación, which had been founded in 1929 by Juan José and José María Castro, Jacobo Ficher and Juan Carlos Paz. It emerged successful works such as El Tarco en Flor, Pampeanas and Turay - Turay. In 1938 he undertook a European tour that took him to Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. He participated in the International Music Congress in part in Florence and led in Turin on his symphonic poem Turay - Turay. In Paris, the Cinco pequeñas piezas, the First Symphony and the concertino Serenata emerged. In 1939 Gianneo back to Argentina. 1944 be premiered for Violin and Orchestra Concierto Aymara.

In 1945 he founded the Youth Orchestra of Radio El Mundo and 1954 the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Radio Nacional. He was director of the National Conservatory and member of the Cultural Commission and the Academy of Fine Arts. It emerged the Variaciones sobre un tema de tango, the Piano Sonata No.. 3, the symphony Antifona, the cantata Angor Dei and the Obertura del Sesquicentenario.

He also worked at this time as a teacher. Among his pupils were Rodolfo Arizaga, Virtu Maragno, Pedro Ignacio Calderón, the conductor and pianist and composer Ariel Ramírez. 1949 won him Alberto Ginastera as professor of harmony, orchestration and composition at the Conservatory of La Plata. In 1955 he became inspector of the National Conservatory, 1965 President of the Argentine Society for Music Education.
