Luis Hierro

Luis Hierro Rivera (* in the department Treinta y Tres, † ) was a Uruguayan politician and journalist.

Life

The Partido Colorado nationals Hierro was initially a political secretary of General Basilisio Saravia, a brother of the Blanco - Aparicio Saravia Caudillo. He took part in the revolution in 1904 and held the position of the Jefe Politico, comparable to today's Intendente, the department Treinta y Tres. Later he was Minister of the electoral Court of Uruguay, as well as director of the newspaper El Ideal. The political companion and personal friend of José Batlle y Ordóñez ' was also dated 15 February 1920 to the February 14, 1923 deputy in the Cámara de Representantes. He also sat in 1945 for a short time ( 5 June to 11 June ) as deputy senator in the Cámara de Senadores.

His son Luis Hierro Gambardella was also active in politics, as well as his grandson Luis Hierro López, who held the position of Vice President of Uruguay between 2000 and 2005.
